Yorkshire Day to be celebrated with #SparklingBradford

The district is being called upon to share their favourite places, spaces and experiences in Bradford to help celebrate Yorkshire Day.

Sparkling Bradford Summer, which was officially launched by pupils aged 7 – 14 from Ilkley Stage School, Articulate Speech, Drama and Casting at the Bradford Festival Schools Day on 12 July, is calling out for local residents, visitors and businesses to share their love for the district using #SparklingBradford across social media.

The initiative, which aims to celebrate all that the Bradford district has to offer as an inclusive summer destination, is a collaboration between key partners, Visit Bradford, The Broadway Bradford, Bradford Council, Made in Bradford and the Bradford Business Improvement District (BID).

With events including a Summer Jungle play area at The Broadway from 24 July – 2 September, a Yorkshire Day fun fair including a hat throwing competition, at Bolling Hall on 1 August, ongoing creative workshops at the Brontë Parsonage Museum and live entertainment and giveaways at Keighley By-The-Sea at Airedale Shopping Centre, Sparkling Bradford is encouraging families to utilise the events schedule to plan the summer holidays.

Ian Ward, general manager at The Broadway and chair of the Bradford BID said: “Sparkling Bradford Summer is about celebrating all that our district has to offer this season and reminding residents and local visitors alike, that there are a whole host of activities, events and family-friendly offers available throughout the school holidays.

“As Bradford residents, it’s up to us to showcase our district’s hidden gems so we’re inviting people to use the #SparklingBradford hashtag across social media this summer to send us videos, photos and posts about their favourite things about the district. We’ll be revealing everyone’s thoughts on Yorkshire Day and one lucky winner will receive a hamper of gifts befitting of a Yorkshire person!”

The winner’s hamper will feature a bottomless prosecco afternoon tea voucher for the Midland Hotel, £100 worth of Bradford and Yorkshire-themed gifts including a locally designed mug from Bradford artist Nancy Haslam-Chance from Visit Bradford and a £50 shopping voucher from The Broadway Bradford.

Cllr Sarah Ferriby, Bradford Council’s Executive Member of Healthy People and Places said: “We had a wonderful start to Sparkling Bradford Summer with a poem reading from the Articulate stage school pupils and it’s great to see such a packed events schedule in the brochure once again.

“Our district has a lot to offer this summer whether it’s taking part in this year’s Summer Trail across the city centre, enjoying Ilkley Summer Festival and celebrating our district’s culture and influence at We Are West Yorkshire: Bradford People display at the Cartwright Hall Art Gallery – and we want to hear more people talking about it! We can’t wait to hear more about people’s favourite destinations, memories or recommendations in Bradford using #SparklingBradford.”
