Smart building and space saving initiatives are the priority for facilities managers during 2019

July 2019, LONDON – Over one third (37%) of facilities managers interviewed at the Facilities Show in London’s ExCel last month revealed that smart building technology is the key focus for their business this year, while 21% are prioritising space saving initiatives.

100 facilities managers were interviewed, revealing that evealing that despite the growing focus on employee experience and wellbeing in the media, smart building technology came out on top of the priority list.

  • 37% claimed the smart building technology is a focus for 2019
  • 21% are prioritising space saving initiatives
  • 12% are focused on productivity
  • 8% are implementing environmental policies
  • 6% see employee experience and wellbeing as a key focus

This comes in stark contrast to a recent study of 1,000 office workers by a leading UK workspace utilisation specialist, which found that 72% of employees already struggle with the amount of space they have to work in and are unsatisfied with the experience this creates.

It’s only natural that businesses are looking to save money and space, but it’s critical they are mindful of the employee experience at the same time. Fortunately, space-saving endeavours do not need to be at the expense of employee wellbeing if smart technology is adopted to personalise the workplace experience, and make employee’s lives easier.
