Hull haulage recruitment firm receives £350k investment

Avail Technologies has completed a round of funding worth £350k led by NPIF - Mercia Equity Finance.

This is managed by the asset management firm Mercia and the Northern Powerhouse Investment Fund, which invests in SMEs in the North.

Avail Technologies is a start-up based in Hull that aims to improve the haulage industry by finding solutions to matching drivers with employers. It aims to remove the need for short-term contracts in recruitment agencies, reducing costs for employers, and increasing earnings for drivers.

The funding breaks down as £300k from NPIF, with the remaining £50k supplied by Avail’s Chairman Keverne Watt. It will be put towards allowing Avail to further develop its platform and app.

Avail’s co-founder Erin Short worked as an HGV driver whilst completing his business management degree after being discharged from the British Army. He founded Avail in June last year with fellow logistics manager Callum Clark.

The company has already signed up over 1000 drivers, as well as its first haulage client The Green Group, a collective based in Rotherham.

Short commented: “We are grateful for the opportunity to work with The Green Group, renowned as one of the most forward-thinking and respected operations in the industry, and for this latest investment which will allow us to further our platform and challenge how the industry currently works.”
