Top technician hire for TSK Consulting Engineers

Tunstall Smith King Consulting Engineers (TSK) has expanded its Nottingham team with the appointment of a new senior technician.

Julian Thew joined TSK Consulting in June 2019 and as part of his new role, his responsibilities will include site visits, producing GA’s (General Arrangements), RC (reinforced concrete) detailing and structural steelwork drawings using Revit and AutoCAD programmes.

Joining the team from West Bridgford-based ML Consulting, with over 24 years’ background in the industry, Julian brings a wealth of experience to the TSK team.

Formed in 2016 by directors Garry Tunstall, Peter Smith and Stephen King, TSK is a niche practice of 15 professionals providing solutions for all aspects of structural and civil engineering design with a hands-on approach to clients.

The company recently revealed a new company HQ in the heart of Nottingham’s creative quarter at 29 Stoney Street, and the move to the new open-plan ground floor space in the historic Lace Market area of the city from Beeston is all part of the company’s growth strategy to accommodate its growing workforce and unlock new opportunities in the city centre.

On his new appointment, Julian said: “I am thrilled to be joining TSK as a senior technician and really admire the way the team work in a relaxed and professional way.

“Having grown up in Dublin before relocating to London in 1987, I am now settled in the Lady Bay region of Nottingham and am looking forward to working in the creative area of the Lace Market with a fantastic welcoming team, getting hands on with some exciting projects, bringing efficiency, experience and enthusiasm to the team whilst improving my knowledge of the industry.”

Director of TSK, Stephen King said: “It’s been our intention for a long time to grow the TSK team and moving to our new, larger HQ has allowed us to pursue our recruitment drive to grow the team organically and accommodate up to 20 more staff.

“It’s great to have someone with Julian’s level of expertise on board with us and he is keen to be involved in all manner of projects and complete his work to the highest calibre. He fits in really well with the TSK family and with lots of exciting projects on the horizon, we wish Julian the best of luck in his new role and look forward to him being alongside us as we build the future of the company.”

TSK’s portfolio is UK-wide and includes hotels, private housing, student accommodation, industrial and food retail developments. Locally, the team is currently working on a number of high-profile projects including the ‘The Waterside’ scheme at Trent Bridge, a landmark student accommodation development adjacent to Sneinton Market, the residential scheme at Trivett Square in the heart of the Lace Market, the regeneration of Beeston town centre and a state of the art YMCA Sports and Community Village in Newark. Collectively, TSK is working on schemes with a construction value in excess of £90m within Nottinghamshire.
