Fedden USP to provide LEAN training at AHDB Scottish Strategic SmartHort Centre
Burnley-based Lean business specialists Fedden USP, will be delivering productivity efficiency training in August at Blairgowrie-based fruit growers Thomas Thomson, one of the three Strategic SmartHort Centres run by the Agriculture & Horticulture Development Board (AHDB).
AHDB is well aware of the decreasing availability of quality labour for many growers and this is why they are running the SmartHort initiative. It is vital for growers to make smarter use of the resources they have available now and to train their existing workforce in LEAN techniques to increase the efficiency of their processes and reduce waste. Robotics may help to some extent in the future, but they are still a long way off.
Neil Fedden, owner and Managing Consultant at Fedden USP, will undertake LEAN workshops at Thomas Thomson, which will be attended by up to 15 different businesses. Neil explained:
“We will take Thomas Thomson and the workshop attendees through the LEAN process, which is really about identifying and cutting out or removing those activities that don’t add value to the business.
“All attendees will develop an action plan which they can implement in their own business and, as we go through the year, everyone will be able to share what changes they have made and how they have made a difference to their business.”
