Proptech software improves Topscan's competitiveness

Built environment survey and scanning business Topscan has improved its services after adopting high-tech new mobile software technology that digitises the process of generating professional surveys.

Based in Bournemouth, and with offices in Manchester and London, Topscan provides land, building and MEP survey and scanning services for UK and international clients, from hotels and retailers to NHS trusts and universities.

The software from proptech firm GoReport replaces the manual process of notetaking and report compilation, so that property surveyors and other professionals can capture data quickly and efficiently before storing it securely in the cloud. The system is also being used by a growing number of mechanical and electrical contractors to capture data for one-off assignments and as part of large, long-term projects.

Topscan director Chad Coombes said: “Continual improvement is fundamental to us as a growing business. One of the ways we are using the GoReport software is to reduce site time by enabling our in-house survey teams to quickly and professionally collect the relevant project information.

“This involves using a single tool rather than having pads, pens, cameras and all the other paraphernalia that was previously required to produce M&E asset registers. We are able to then swiftly produce professional electronic reports that present the data in an easy to read format. It saves time for us and our clients and enables us to be more competitive.

He added: “Driving efficiencies and productivity through intelligent data capture and streamlining outputs means we can concentrate on conducting more surveys and increasing revenues or simply become more competitive in an already competitive market.

“As much of our work focuses on large property portfolios such as universities we needed a robust system that can handle hundreds of thousands of rows of data and we’ve been really impressed with the flexibility of GoReport in creating the customisable product we need.”

Based in Belfast with staff across the UK, GoReport currently employs 22 people. The firm is headed by Anthony Walker, a fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors and past chair of the organisation’s building surveying professional group board.

Mr Walker said: “There is enormous potential for the proptech industry, which is still in its infancy, and it’s tremendous to see the benefits that a system like GoReport can deliver. As a business serving very large clients, Topscan processes vast amounts of data every day and a laborious traditional way of working has been streamlined and professionalised with the adoption of our technology.”

He added: “We believe there are a huge number of applications for this technology and we’re excited to see the sectors that could benefit from a smarter and more productive way of working.”
