North East boxing club goes for gold with new Team Valley site expansion

A local community boxing club has moved into new premises in Gateshead’s Team Valley.

Dunston Boxing Club has relocated to a 6,000 sq ft site on Third Avenue road on the Team Valley trading estate.

The new site is set to see the club double its training space and features new changing areas as well as an on-site gym and a new boxing ring.

The club, which holds boxing and keep-fit sessions for those aged nine plus, four times a week, has been running since 2009 from its previous site in Brama Teams industrial estate.

Ernie Blenkiron, coach and secretary of Dunston Boxing Club, commented: ’’Our existing premises at Brama Teams industrial estate was a great base for us to start and grow our club, however, for the past couple of years we have been struggling with the limited size of the space and the increasing rent.

“We started the search for new premises in January 2019 but were struggling to find somewhere that had the space we needed and was affordable. That is when we approached UK Land Estates to see if they could help.”

Dunston Boxing Club’s new space was donated by UK Land Estates, as part of the organisation’s aim to support local community projects.

David Gibbs, commercial director at UK Land Estates, added: “As a growing local business, we were more than happy to help the dedicated trainers at Dunston Boxing Club find a suitable space that would help them achieve their ambitious growth targets.

“We’re thrilled to see the positive difference that this property has made to the club and its members and can’t wait to see the club continue to go from strength to strength.”
