Rip-roaring quantity surveyor takes on motorcycling’s Thundersport GB championship
A quantity surveyor from Chippenham is off to a flying start this superbike racing season as he competes in the Thundersport GB Championships.
Gareth Roberts, a quantity surveyor at Persimmon Homes Wessex, has been competing and racing on the track for the last three years.
The 25-year-old, who joined Persimmon Homes five years ago as a trainee, is currently ranked fourth overall in the 2019 pre-national championships, with three rounds left to go.
Richard Briggs, managing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said: “It’s very exciting to hear all about Gareth’s success and we’re delighted to be his sponsor for this race season.
“Staff have rallied to support him, and we wish him every success in the upcoming races.”
Gareth’s interest in the sport was sparked by his Dad, and his family’s love for motorbikes and racing.
He said: “So far this season it has been a mixed bag of ups and downs. I secured a race win in the first round, but unfortunately fell in round two and dislocated my shoulder, which meant I was out for that race.
“Now we are halfway through the season I sit first in the freshman class and fourth overall in the pre-national championship and I’m really happy with that and look forward to seeing what the rest of the race season brings. “It’s great to have my employer as one of my sponsors and the support from my colleagues has been wonderful.”
Gareth and his partner Lauren have recently purchased their first home together with Persimmon. Using the Government-backed Help to Buy scheme the couple were able to get onto the housing ladder and purchase a three-bedroom Hatfield property type.
Gareth added: “The location, price and house type were perfect for us. We’re delighted to be all moved in and settled at our new home.”
