Company achieves national asbestos testing standard ahead of schedule

A North East health and safety building compliance company has achieved a national accreditation for the testing of asbestos - more than six months before the deadline for companies to achieve the standard.

Eton Environmental Group has been accredited as an Asbestos Testing Body by the by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS).

It follows the successful transition to the ISO 17025:2017 Standard.

Eton, which has its head office in Darlington but provides health and safety building compliance services across the UK, has achieved this well ahead of the 2020 deadline set for organisations to complete the transition from the 2005 version.

This covers asbestos testing performed at at its own laboratory premises in Darlington (bulk asbestos analysis) and away from the lab when it is carrying out tests following the removal of absestos from premises.

Eton also undertook an increase of scope to its ISO 17020:2012 accreditation, which means it is now accredited additionally for priority asbestos assessments and asbetsos re-inspections in addition to asbetsos surveying work, ensuring all the work it undertakes is covered by the same quality standard.

Eton Environmental Group Quality Manager Andrew Graham said: “We went through a journey of transition to the new 2017 standard and after providing evidence to UKAS as part or our annual assessment, they were able to grant us accreditation to the new standard.

“This is ahead of the 2020 deadline set and at which time organisations who have not made the transition will lose their accreditation completely.

“We’re also pleased to have increased the scope of our other UKAS accreditation which now also covers priority assessments and re-inspection.

“As a responsible company which has been providing asbestos surveying and testing services for 15 years, it is essential that we maintain the highest standards of Quality and one of the ways we demonstrate this is through the accreditations we hold.

“It means that anyone engaging Eton’s services can rest safe in the knowledge that they working with a company committed to Quality excellence.”
