Bristol colleagues gear up for mammoth charity hike
Colleagues from Barratt Homes in Bristol are in training for the challenging Edale Skyline Challenge - a mammoth 21.2 mile trek, including a 1,355 metre ascent, right in the heart of the Peak District.
Described as The Big Barratt Hike, the challenge will involve two teams from the five star housebuilder’s Bristol division, setting out on Saturday 7 September, in a bid to raise £3,000 for two charities - Mind and the British Heart Foundation.
“This challenge is likely to take us 8-12 hours and is going to require a high level of fitness and lots of determination,” said Barratt Homes’ marketing manager Roxanne Lippiatt. “We are raising funds for two amazing charities, so that should really focus our minds when the going gets tough.”
Each year, one in four people experiences a mental health problem - and hundreds of thousands are still struggling. Mind provides support to empower anyone enduring poor mental health. The charity campaigns to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.
The British Heart Foundation funds more than £100 million of research each year into all heart and circulatory diseases and the things that cause them - heart diseases, stroke, vascular dementia and diabetes.
“These are both worthy causes - carrying out vital work, both in our area and nationally,” added Roxanne. “Any donations, however big or small, would be really appreciated and put to good use. Some of us have never done anything like this before, so it’s going to be pretty gruelling.”
