Renewable energy supplier and app launch creates jobs for the North East

A new energy supplier has launched in the region offering tariffs, apps and low-cost energy to UK-wide consumers.

Green hopes to create a smart energy ‘revolution’ as it launches a new tool to help customers save money. According to the firm, ‘thousands’ of customers have switched to the supplier within the first month of operations.

The new app, thought to be the first of its kind to help people buy and manage their energy usage at the ‘touch of a button’, will lead to the creation of a number of new jobs at the Core in Newcastle.

Speaking about the new business, Steven Redmayne, Green’s operations director, said: “We know that action-based technology with the functionality to complete purchases via buy-buttons is rapidly changing the way we communicate.

“We believe our tool will help consumers buy and manage their energy supply, giving them a much clearer picture of how they can make informed choices to cut costs and save each month.”

Green’s technology is developed in-house and gives customers the option to access real-time forecasting and insights. Customers can also make payments within the app, using Apple and Google Pay.

The tool can also be connected to a smart meter in UK homes.

Green only supplies 100 per cent renewable electricity to its customers, with energy being produced from sustainable sources including wind, solar and hydro.

The creation of the new app has also helped the company reduce its overall running costs enabling it to pass on the savings to customers via competitive tariffs.

Steven added: “As a North East business, we are delighted to be launching this new technology here in our region and creating jobs as a result.

“As an accredited employer displaying the Living Wage Employer Mark - we are firmly committed to providing all of our people with the relevant training and development needs as we look to grow our business.”
