Clarion team raises almost £3,000 with charity skydive

Three brave colleagues from Clarion in Leeds are raising the fundraising stakes by jumping 15,000 ft from a plane and travelling up to 120mph in a sponsored tandem skydive as part of their support for the firm’s chosen charity for 2019, St Gemma’s Hospice.

Two members of the firm’s front of house team Justine Lindley and Abi Wilson, together with colleague Olivia Storey from Clarion’s banking practice, made the jump on Saturday 17th August with Skydive Hibaldstow in North Lincolnshire. The daredevil stunt inspired colleagues, clients, family and friends who have, so far, helped them raise almost £2,700 for the Moortown hospice.

Throughout the year, colleagues at the Leeds law firm have been organising a range of fundraising activities from regular charity bake sales and raffles to climbing The Three Peaks, running the Leeds 10k and taking part in Tough Mudder challenges. Already, the 200-strong Clarion team has succeeded in raising £5,260 for St Gemma’s, putting it on target to achieve the £10,000 it has pledged to raise by next summer.

Justine Lindley, assistant front of house manager at Clarion, said: “I’ve never done anything like this before, but I wanted to push myself and there could be no better reason than to do so for St Gemma’s. Having had family and friends who have been affected by cancer, I really wanted to play my part in supporting this fantastic local charity and really appreciate how colleagues and clients have got behind us.

“It was an absolutely incredible experience – the instructors looked after us so well that I actually felt very safe and loved every minute of it. I would happily do it again!”

The biggest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in the UK, St Gemma’s Hospice has long-established links with Clarion.

St Gemma’s Hospice provides expert care and support for local people with life-limiting illnesses and last year celebrated its 40th anniversary. As well as providing care to patients and their carers in the hospice’s 32 bed in-patient unit and through the St Gemma’s community team, the charity also offers day services including a day hospice and out-patient department. In the year 2017/18, the hospice received 1313 patient referrals and handled 538 in-patient admissions and the St Gemma’s community team of nurses and doctors made over 5,682 visits to patients in their own homes.
