Striking work for County Durham’s STS

Darlington lightning protection experts, Stone Technical Services (STS), are advising businesses and organisations to check they have adequate lightning protection as they’ve seen a sharp increase in demand for their services during the recent changeable summer weather.

In one night in the North East alone (Sunday 4th August), 13,000 lightning strikes were recorded according to the Met Office.

STS Lightning Protection is one of the most respected in its field, working around the UK on high profile projects as well as being the only appointed lightning conductor contractor at St Paul’s Cathedral.

The company has recently completed full lightning protection system installs for Durham County Council, The Gateshead Housing Company, the University of York and the National Trust, as well as many churches and schools.

STS is a leader in the specialist field of lightning protection and is one of the most highly accredited in the industry as a member of the Association of Technical Lightning and Access Specialists (ATLAS), Lightning Conductor Engineers and also of the Steeplejack Training Group Association, operating to the highest compliance standards for lightning protection, BS EN 62305.

Managing director of STS, Dave Stone said: “Because of the changing climate and heightened health and safety rules, this is proving an area of rapid growth in the UK. Stone’s experts are urging companies and organisations to ensure their protection is compliant with the highest industrial standards for lightning protection, especially as more businesses are offering non-compliant protection which can prove inefficient and even dangerous.

“If you haven’t got the right, industry-approved lightning protection, the results can be catastrophic- insurance policies can become invalid, there could be a lot of expensive damage to buildings, structures and technology and people can be injured- or worse.

Investing in specialist lightning protection will prevent the loss of human life and damage to buildings caused by lightning strikes and the costly repairs associated with them and, importantly, will also ensure that systems are compliant for insurance purposes.
