Major global export conference to help businesses plan for post-Brexit world

MORE than 200 exporting businesses and trade advisers from all over the world are visiting Leeds next week (Sept 12) for what is thought to be the biggest trade conference of its kind ever held in Yorkshire.

The one-day conference, Global Business EXPO19, on September 12, organised by overseas trade specialist, Chamber International, will cover exporting and importing and provide international advice in a wide range of manufacturing and service sectors, to help businesses trade beyond the EU after the UK leaves on October 31 with, or without, a deal.

The conference, being held at Cloth Hall Court, Leeds, with the Institute of Export & International Trade and bringing its World Trade Summit to Yorkshire for the first time, is almost sold out with scores of delegate businesses attending as well as trade specialists from Turkey, Brazil, UAE, Thailand, Chile, USA, Saudi Arabia, China, India and Hungary.

As well as talks on opportunities and risk-management in different global markets, businesses will be able to have individual meetings to gain first-hand bespoke advice with trade specialists from delegate countries. Chamber International and Institute of Export & International Trade advisers will also be available.

Chamber International director, Tim Bailey, says: “Brexit, in whatever form it takes, will throw up many opportunities as well as challenges, particularly in fast-growing markets outside the EU.

“Although more Yorkshire businesses are planning ahead and looking further afield, Global Business EXPO19 aims to supercharge their efforts by bringing comprehensive global advice to the heart of the region.

“There is growing interest in overseas trade from all types and sizes of businesses, triggered partly by the growth in selling goods digitally, and we are grateful for the support from our UK and overseas partners in bringing what will be our flagship event for 2019 to the region.”

Staging the conference follows a campaign by Chamber International to extend its global partner network by creating new strategic alliances with export bodies including British Chamber of Commerce Turkey (BCCT), Istanbul; British Centres for Business, Dubai; Resolve, based in North Yorkshire and Charlotte, North Carolina, US, which targets North America, Brazil Business Hub, Alcester, and foreign exchange and international payments company, moneycorp which is main sponsor for Global Expo19.

Export professionals attending will include the UK’s export credit agency, UK Export Finance; Shanghai based Dezan Shira and Guiseley-based translation company Alexika.

Chamber International helps hundreds of new and experienced exporters throughout the UK with a wide range of specialist services to make exporting easier and more cost effective.
