FT Group C2C cyclists raise £10,000 for Postrate Cancer UK

A TEAM of cyclists from one of the region’s largest construction companies has raised almost £10,000 for a cancer charity.

Fourteen riders from Northallerton-based FT Construction Group completed the grueling Coast to Coast ride – from Whitehaven to Sunderland – to raise money for Prostrate Cancer UK. In addition to cyclists from Walter Thompson and Tom Willoughby, the team included Irish riders from a Walter Thompson supply company, Heron Joinery.

Graham Shepherd, Pre-Construction Director at the company, said: “It was a monumental effort from all of the riders and we’re delighted to have raised as much as we did. I’d like to thank all of the riders, but also the support team who ensured the ride went as smoothly as possible.”

The cyclists completed the 140-mile ride in less than two days, staying overnight at Alston Youth Hostel.

Tessa Harker, Contract Administrator at Walter Thompson, completed the ride which she helped organise: “There was a great camaraderie among the riders and the Irish lads were great company,” she said.

“Our employees chose Prostate Cancer UK to raise funds for following some excellent toolbox talks from John Dodds and Robin Millman from Prostate Cancer UK, delivered to each of our offices and sites. We all felt this was a fantastic charity to raise funds for.”

“It was great to have so many take part in the challenge from across our group as well as including members of our supply chain. This is now our fourth Coast to Coast crossing with each event providing a perfect opportunity to raise awareness and also raise much needed funds for charities close to our hearts. The generosity of friends, families and colleagues never ceases to amaze,” said Graham.

The FT Group was formed in 1987 to amalgamate the well respected and well established construction companies Fordy and Thompson. The group incorporates Walter Thompson Ltd, Tom Willoughby Ltd, Langtons Northallerton Ltd and George Fordy Properties Ltd.
