Newcastle fire safety manufacturer secures contract to protect 'iconic' £1bn London skyscraper
Western Europe’s second tallest building, 22 Bishopgate in the City of London, will be fire protected by a Newcastle-based manufacturer’s systems.
Advanced, which manufactures MxPro 5 fire panels, has secured the contract on the 62-storey, £1bn building – designed to be at the ‘forefront of fire technology’ – thanks to its reputation for providing fire safety solutions to some of London’s most iconic skyscrapers, including the Shard, the Leadenhall Building, the Heron Tower and the HSBC Tower.
Made at the company’s HQ at Balliol Business Park in the North East, Advanced’s fire panels will be installed as part of the development’s intelligent fire detection network, which covers almost 1.275 million sq ft of office space, eight community spaces, a gallery, fresh food market and wellbeing retreat.
Pete Browitt, Advanced’s managing director, said: “Great emphasis was placed on selecting the very best fire protection for 22 Bishopsgate – a building designed to be at the forefront of fire technology.
“It has been a pleasure to work with contractors, Multiplex, who explicitly specified our fire systems thanks to our existing strong relationship and reputation for performance, quality and ease of use.
“Being specified in what’s arguably the UK’s most high-profile commercial development since the Shard, reinforces our market-leading position and is a testament to the reliability of our products – all created by our skilled workforce here in the North East region.”
As a global manufacturer and supplier of commercial fire detection systems, Advanced – part of FTSE 100 company Halma Plc – exports its fire alarm control panels to over 80 countries across the globe and employs 200 staff in the UK, US, India, Dubai and Far East.
