Housebuilder’s Community Fund supports North Devon cancer wellbeing centre

A charity that supports patients being treated at Northern Devon Healthcare NHS Trust has received a boost this month - thanks to a donation from David Wilson Homes

Over and Above raises money to create the best possible experience for patients and their families, by funding extra care and equipment in addition to that provided by the NHS.

Now the charity has been chosen as one of the recipients of David Wilson Homes’ Community Fund - which donates £1000 each month to an organisation improving the quality of life for those living in the region.

“This is our pledge to support those living in areas where we are helping to create new communities,” said David Wilson Homes’ managing director in Exeter, Huw Llewellyn. “It is important that we build strong relationships with local charities, clubs and organisations, so I’m delighted that we are able to support such a worthy cause here.

“This donation will be ring-fenced for Over and Above’s Cancer Wellbeing Centre appeal. At present, facilities like this exist further afield - but not for the people of North Devon. The centre will provide much-needed services - like counselling, financial advice, wig fittings and support groups for those living with cancer.

“There are also plans for family-sized rooms to be built close to where patients are cared for - giving loved-ones the opportunity to stay close by. This is so important, and I’m delighted our Community Fund will be used to support such a worthy cause.”

Lisa Townsend, fundraising officer for Over and Above, added: “We are so grateful for the generous donation we have received. Building has started on the centre and we are excited about all the services and support that will soon be available to patients and their families in North Devon. We are due to open in Spring 2020 and we wouldn’t be able to achieve this without support from companies like David Wilson Homes, we cannot thank you enough.”
