Temple Bright advises Stairway Learning on Connect investment

Tech City law firm Temple Bright has advised fast growing digital learning business Stairway Learning on a seed investment round, led by venture capital firm Connect Ventures.

Stairway was established in March 2019 by Charles Williamson and Olly Hunt with the aim of inspiring the next generation of learners to engage with STEM subjects, while increasing accessibility of high quality education to everyone regardless of background.

After extensive user research and testing, Stairway launched its digital maths tutor. The product has now been used around the world in homes, classrooms and on mobile. There have been improvements in grades and teachers have integrated Stairway into their teaching practices.

The investment deal, led by Connect Ventures and backed by several high profile tech investors, provides £1m of funding which will contribute to the achievement of Stairway’s long term aim: an effective learning system which scales across the globe, personalised to each individual.

CEO Charles Williamson said: “We are delighted to have the support of Connect and a team of experienced individual tech investors. As a result of their contribution, we will be expanding our range of content, building new features to enhance the learning experience and pushing towards our mission of improving access to STEM learning.

“Over the next few months, we’ll be sharing more information on our plans – we’ve got many exciting features on the horizon to improve the learning experience for students.”

Temple Bright corporate partner James Vickerman said: “It was a real pleasure to advise Stairway on this deal with a prestigious group of investors. The business has enormous potential to improve the quality of education worldwide in maths and technical disciplines, helping those with limited access to knowledge. We look forward to being involved as Stairway continues to grow and extend its user base across the globe.”

Temple Bright was established in 2010 using a tech-enabled, streamlined business model and now has 69 partners with offices in London and Bristol. The firm has a focus on corporate finance work across a range of sectors, with a particular emphasis on technology.
