Silver RSPB award for show home gardens in Westbury
Barratt Homes is not just creating new homes for people in Westbury – it is committed to making its show home complex at Mill Brook a haven for wildlife too.
The efforts of the five star housebuilder have been rewarded with a silver award from the RSPB which has assessed the show home gardens at the Mill Brook development.
Sales director Andrea Pilgrim said the company is committed to safeguarding the environment and the RSPB award recognises its work to make great places for wildlife in its show home gardens.
“We are thrilled to have been awarded silver for this garden which is already attracting wildlife,” said Andrea. “We have also had positive feedback from people visiting the development who have really engaged with our plans.”
The main pillars to create a wildlife show home garden include providing food with nectar and pollen rich plants, providing water, shelter and boundaries which enable animals to move around freely.
The RSPB also judges efforts to protect wildlife by using peat-free compost and supports housebuilders in spreading the word about what they have done and encouraging new residents to be wildlife friendly.
All new customers are provided with their own guide to wildlife-friendly gardening written by the experts at the RSPB.
The show home gardens at Mill Brook include features such as a bird box, bug hotel, pond, hive and lavender hedge.
“The gardens incorporate key elements advised by the RSPB and not only are they now award-winning but they look great too,” added Andrea.
Across the UK Barratt Homes and the RSPB are working together to deliver more wildlife friendly housing, that is already starting to change how homes are built and neighbourhoods are designed, creating spaces that are welcoming to people and wildlife.
