Belmayne honours Age Friendly champions
Dronfield-based financial planners, Belmayne, are celebrating the achievements of those who make the Sheffield city region a great place in which to grow old.
The independent firm sponsored the group/project prize at the inaugural Age Friendly Awards, run by Age UK Sheffield, which were held at St Mary’s Church near the city centre.
Belmayne partners, Ben Smalley and Jon Stevens, presented the Age Friendly Group/Project award to Sheffield Mencap and Gateway Lunch Club, a longstanding scheme offering a vital social opportunity for elderly people at risk of isolation or loneliness. A dedicated team of volunteers runs the Sunday lunch club once a month, providing a homecooked meal, transport and a game of bingo for those over 70 with learning disabilities and their carers.
Ben Smalley said: “We believe it is hugely important to recognise and reward the people who enrich Sheffield and the surrounding areas with so many opportunities to live a fulfilled and active life, regardless of age. It was an absolute pleasure to meet some of the individuals behind the Gateway Lunch Club, who were very worthy winners of our Age Friendly award. The event really highlighted the strong sense of community that exists locally and we were honoured to take part.”
The Age Friendly Awards are part of the Age Friendly City programme, run by Age UK Sheffield. The independent charity supports thousands of people in need, such as the 24,000 local over 65s who live in poverty.
Chartered financial planners, Belmayne, back a range of local initiatives, from grassroots sports organisations, to four nominated charities, for whom the firm fundraises through the Belmayne Foundation.
