Housebuilder encourages more women to the property industry as part of South Yorkshire’s growth
2019 Local housebuilder, Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, is encouraging more women to consider a career in the industry as part of its sponsorship of the Women in Property event that took place in Sheffield on the 12th of September. The housebuilder donated £300 to the event which was arranged by the housebuilder’s Strategic Land Manager, Jennifer Winyard.
Women in Property is an organisation that pioneers change and inspiration for women working in the property and construction industries by matching female workers from diverse backgrounds to network and mentor with one another and inspire inclusivity across the industry.
Jennifer Winyard, Strategic Land Manager at Barratt Yorkshire West and former Chairman for Women in Property in Yorkshire and the North East, commented: “We’re thrilled that Barratt Yorkshire West is sponsoring another ‘Women in Property’ event. It’s important for these sectors to become more diverse and inclusive and a big part of that is by providing mentoring and support to help the women who work in these industries careers’ progress.
“It was great to be able to link up the event with our growth in South Yorkshire to encourage and support women from the local region.”
In recent years, Barratt Homes Yorkshire West has invested in reestablishing its presence in South Yorkshire after the recession saw offices in the region close. Since then, the housebuilder has aspired to reinstate an office in the region to effectively service Sheffield, Rotherham and Barnsley and provide much-needed housing for local residents.
Recent successes in areas such as Bannerdale, Catcliffe and Waverley and a number of live opportunities in Sheffield (including sites in Oughtibridge, Penistone and Halfway, all currently in the planning stages) provide the housebuilder with positive hope for the future.
Ian Ruthven, Managing Director at Barratt Developments Yorkshire West, said: “We’re dedicated to diversifying the housebuilding industry so we’re always proud to support the Women in Property events. This event, especially, couldn’t come at a better time as we turn our focus to South Yorkshire and Sheffield in particular.”
