Lucketts Travel shows pride in the poppy by supporting HMS Sultan

Lucketts Travel has shown its support for the UK armed forces by helping military volunteers on their journey to and from London Poppy Day. The crew from HMS Sultan, the on-shore base of the Royal Navy in Gosport, travelled to London to take part in The Royal British Legion’s London Poppy Day, which was held on October 31.

Lending a hand on their journey, Lucketts Travel contributed to the cost of their journey by providing double decker buses. The contribution enabled HMS Sultan to fund other parts of their project and focus on fundraising for the Royal British Legion. Upon their return on November 1, Lucketts was ready and waiting to take them back to base.

London Poppy Day is the largest one-day street collecting event of its kind and sees veterans, serving forces personnel, civilians and celebrities raise money for the charity by selling poppies in the capital. More than 2,000 collectors take to the streets for the event and major train stations across London also host music from top military bands.

Lucketts’ managing director Tony Lawman, a former serving member of the British Army himself, said of the project: “The dedication of those at HMS Sultan is to be commended and it was our pleasure to help the team on their journey – which saw the crew raise an incredible £845,000. As Remembrance Day shines a light on the work and sacrifices of our armed service personnel, we strive to show our appreciation for all they do for us.”

Lucketts is a strong supporter of the UK’s armed forces and is the proud recipient of the Government’s Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) bronze award. The award names Lucketts as an officially classed armed forces-friendly company, open to employing people from the forces and their spouses. It also means the company has displayed strong levels of support for the armed forces.

In support of Remembrance Day, which takes place on November 11, the leading Hampshire coach operator has proudly emblazoned all of its coaches, across all five of its brands.

Tony concluded: “Being based just down the road from one of the UK’s biggest and most historic naval bases, the armed forces are a big part of our local identity. We are proud to support the armed forces community both as an employer and supplier.”
