New Owner for Rask Restaurant at Sadler Bridge Studios

RASK, the Scandinavian-style café based at Connect Derby’s Sadler Bridge Studios is under new ownership.

Interior designer and keen cook Maninder Lloyla has purchased the business with her sister Parminder Lloyla and brother-in-law Charanjit Chopra from previous owners, the mother and daughter duo Sarah and Olivia Pritchard.

The café is located at the studios on Bold Lane, one of Connect Derby’s seven managed workspaces across the city A scandi-style café inspired by the Danish art of Hygge, it has become well known for its nutrition-based approach to food.

RASK serves good-for-you food made from simple and honest ingredients. It promotes a healthy way of eating and introduces customers to ingredients that may be considered ‘different’ yet have massive health benefits. The café offers a dedicated breakfast, hot and cold RASK bowl salads, soups, open sandwiches and a hugely popular Saturday brunch menu. Maninder first discovered RASK during a short spell of trying a Vegan diet. She found the café through an internet search and on visiting found the space and food was completely aligned to her vision.

She subsequently found out that Sarah and Olivia were selling the business in order to pursue other ventures and although Maninder had no previous experience of running a café other than being a keen home cook, she took the plunge and with the support of her sister and brother-in-law bought the business.

RASK’s fundamental principles of providing a comfortable space where everyone is welcome and serving nutritious food that caters for all dietary requirements is something the new owners are keen to continue with. They also plan to extend the current service to cater for Sadler Bridge Studios tenants and staff meetings.

Commenting on their new venture, Maninder Lloyla said:

“From the first time I visited Rask I fell in love with everything about it – from the Scandinavian vibe to the relaxing atmosphere and especially the nutritious approach to its menus, which appealed to my own philosophy when it comes to food.”

“It felt like fate when I found out that it was for sale and it felt right to buy the business regardless of not having any experience. We really liked what Sarah and Olivia had created at RASK and have kept the core business much the same but are continuously developing and pushing new ideas.”

“We have already introduced new smoothie bowls, seasonal porridge toppings, unique drinks and a Big Breakfast (also available as vegan) which has proved to be a big hit. Going into the New Year we have lots of ideas try and will also be focusing more on the brand.”

RASK is located on the ground floor of the Connect Derby’s Sadler Bridge Studios managed workspace scheme on Sadler Gate.
