School completes outdoor learning area thanks to donation

The grass is definitely greener in a new outdoor learning area at a Leeds primary school following a donation from a local flooring store.

Bramley Park Academy approached Grass Direct in Keighley to buy some artificial turf for a new area which enables children to learn and play outdoors.

But the store then donated the turf free of charge, enabling the school to complete the area in time for the new term in September.

The artificial grass has been installed in front of a wooden stage so it can be used by the year 1 and 2 children for quiet reading time, but also for somewhere to sit when they are watching role-play or a performance, such as Bramley’s Got Talent.

Leanne Brown, Office Manager at Bramley Park Academy, said: “We received a lottery grant to create the new area, so along with the kind donation from Grass Direct, it means we have been able to provide an amazing space for the younger children.

“It means they have a great outdoor learning and play area which they can access directly from the classroom and because we chose to use artificial grass, they can use it at any time of the year.

“The children enjoy reading their books whilst sitting on the grass and also watching their classmates perform on the stage.

“We would like to thank Grass Direct for their support.”

Chris Barber; Retail Operations Manager for Grass Direct, said: “Bramley Park Academy is just 13 miles from our store so when we discovered what the school needed the artificial grass for, we were delighted to be able to donate it free of charge.

“It’s a great project and the Geneva Artificial Grass they chose is perfect for the area. It’s very low maintenance and can be used year-round and not just when the weather is warm. It’s also the perfect pile height, at 27mm, to cushion those little trips and falls.

“As a family-run company we’re committed to giving something back to the communities in the areas where we have stores and playing our part in supporting local charities and organisations who do such great work.”

Grass Direct is one of three brands owned by family-run, independent company Connection Flooring. As well as having access to the UK’s largest range of artificial grass, shoppers who visit the store in Keighley can also buy carpets, wood and laminate flooring and luxury vinyl tile via the two other brands - Flooring Superstore and Direct Wood Flooring.
