UK company shares cooling best practice with Dubai counterparts

A British precision air conditioning manufacturer has taken its industry knowledge to Dubai, organising a Data Centre Cooling Summit attended by industry stakeholders from across the Gulf.

The event saw Airedale International talk about the latest technology trends in data centre cooling to the booming industry in the Middle East where demand is expected to create a fourfold spending increase in cloud services in the region by 2022 .

A team of experts from Airedale International, including product development director Adam Yarrington, export sales manager Asim Ansari and marketing manager Darren Farrar, teamed up with their Airedale International colleagues based in the region and local business partner, Al Mazroui Advance Technology, to deliver the event held at the prestigious Festival City events complex.

Darren Farrar, marketing manager of Airedale International, explains: “We have a growing number of customers across the Middle East and are aware that the unique challenges in the region mean cooling systems are really put to the test. Techniques used in Northern Europe are not suitable here in many cases, so a more tailored approach is required.

“There are currently more on-site or enterprise data centres in the Gulf than there are CoLocation facilities. There’s also a tendency to keep temperatures in data centres lower than is really necessary. We presented ideas around higher operating temperatures which can keep data centre servers in their operational envelope but save significant amounts of money in energy bills. As cooling contributes up to 50% of data centre energy bills, bringing air supply temperatures up by just a few degrees can have a huge impact on operational expenses.”

The Data Centre Cooling Summit was held at the Intercontinental Hotel in Dubai Festival City with over 100 registered guests from across the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Kuwait, Egypt, Bahrain, Lebanon and Qatar.

Adam Yarrington, product development director of Airedale International, delivered a seminar on the evolution of data centre cooling and Asim Ansari, Export Sales Manager, unveiled a preview of the company’s next innovation in data centre precision temperature control, the Easicool Evo2, which will not be officially launched until 2020.

Darren adds: “One of the greatest challenges facing our industry at the moment is minimising the impact of air conditioning on the environment. “We have collated an immense amount of knowledge and skills over the last 45 years and our engineers are constantly working on new technology to evolve our offer and ensure that Airedale International products and solutions continue to be applied worldwide.

“This summit has given us the chance to share our expertise, best practice methods and the latest technology that will help data centre managers reduce their carbon footprint with smarter, more efficient cooling systems.”

Airedale International is based in West Yorkshire and manufactures and develops cooling solutions and the associated software to industries including data centres, healthcare, education and retail in more than 60 countries.
