Chepstow-based charity benefits from Community Fund donation

Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes has given Chepstow & District Mencap a much-needed boost – by donating £1,000.

Taken from its 2019 Community Fund, the money provided will go towards refurbishing a Victorian schoolhouse in the heart of Chepstow town. Once completed, the historic building will act as a base for the regional charity and will create a fully accessible hub for the community.

“Chepstow & District Mencap is an incredible organisation, providing adults with learning disabilities with the support that they need – be it through workshops, outings or activities,” said Steve Williams, Barratt Homes managing director.

“Fundraising is essential to help continue their work, so we had no hesitation in helping them through our Community Fund. As an established part of the Monmouthshire community, with new homes developments nearby, we are delighted to be able to help them as they embark on this exciting renovation project.”

The Community Fund is a dedicated resource for backing local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.

Michelle Binman, service manager at Chepstow & District Mencap, added: “We are currently fundraising to help with the refurbishment of our new base, particularly the internal fixtures and fittings. There is so much that we need to consider, such as electric hoists for wheelchair users in our loos as well as smaller costs such as light fittings. This fantastic donation couldn’t have come at a better time – and we are extremely grateful to Barratt and David Wilson Homes for their support.”

Barratt and David Wilson Homes has pledged to support those living in areas where it is building new communities and has already seen donations given to local charities such as Home Access in Penarth and the Severn Area Rescue Association in Beachley.
