Highways England secures significant office space for expansion in Wakefield
Carter Jonas has secured 30,000 sq ft of office space for Highways England at Calder Park in Wakefield.
A 15-year lease has been granted with park owner Peel L&P, represented by Savills. The sum has not been disclosed.
The office space is to be the second letting on the park for Highways England, spread across a two-storey building. Opening in early 2021, the space could accommodate various Highways England operational staff to manage road networks across the region.
Chris Hartnell, associate partner at Carter Jonas, said: “Calder Park will provide Highways England’s employees with an exceptional environment that will support their wellbeing and ultimately be a great place to work.
“We have been advising Highways England on its estates programme and this deal shows the organisation’s commitment to ensuring offices are positioned close to the motorway network to provide the best services for their customers.”
Calder Park is set across 240 acres of land and has detailed planning consent for 1.5 million sq ft of business space.
The site incorporates 100-acres of nature reserve and meets the highest environmental standards. On-site amenities include food and drink outlets and a 74-bed Premier Inn.
Highways England was advised by Carter Jonas. Peel L&P was represented by Savills.
Andrew Farrer, development manager at Peel L&P, added: “The momentum continues to build at Calder Park and we’re delighted Highways England have made the decision to increase their current office take up.
“We have more land available for further office development and, with this commitment from such a prestigious occupier, we’re confident there are prosperous times ahead.”
