Local transport project receives Community Fund boost

Barratt Homes is working with local charity Green Community Travel to help local people who have no access to public transport.

The five star housebuilder has donated £1,000 from its Community Fund, to be spent on leasing a minibus for use within the South Gloucestershire area.

“Green Community Travel does an excellent job, providing more than 40,000 journeys each year for those living locally. The charity does this through its Ring and Ride service, voluntary cars and by providing local groups with transport,” said Barratt Homes finance director Laura Lloyd.

“This accessible and affordable transport ensures those who need it can remain independent and go about their daily lives. As an established part of this community, we at Barratt Homes are de-lighted to be able to step in and help this worthy cause.”

Barratt Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated resource for backing local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.

Jenny Bright, manager of Green Community Travel, added: “This has come at a wonderful time for us as we have lost two minibuses over the last 24 months due to maintenance issues. This unexpected donation from Barratt Homes means that we can lease a minibus. And this, in turn, means that we can use other funds to focus on additional projects.

“We have found from passenger surveys that using our services makes a difference to people’s health and wellbeing - and also reduces their social isolation. The schemes we provide allow peo-ple access to their local area for shopping, visiting friends and local amenities - as well as GP ap-pointments and hairdressers.

“Our superb team of volunteers support us so we are also able to take people to hospital. Our group transport scheme helps local community groups with 15 seater minibuses. We find that lo-cal small schools find this very helpful as their class sizes are so small that coach hire wouldn’t be cost-effective.

“This year we celebrated 30 years of serving our local community and - with the support of volun-teers and local businesses like Barratt Homes - we hope to be able to for the next 30 years!”
