NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week to hold biggest ever January event with eco-friendly vision
NE1’s Newcastle Restaurant Week is holding its 18th biannual event this month.
From January 20-26, NE1 will be offering residents and visitors to dine out in Newcastle for £10 or £15 per head.
For this latest event, NE1 has issued more restaurants and a new transportation partner - bus operator Arriva North East - for support. NE1 has teamed up with the bus company to offer a better, economical mode of transport for diners, so they actively leave cars at home.
Over 100 restaurants are signed up to take part in the January event, including Blackfriars and Dobson & Parnell.
It is said that eight new restaurants are joining this month’s cohort, including Eden, My Delhi, recently opened Leila Lily’s, and Horticulture.
Head of marketing and events at NE1 Ltd, Ben Whitfield, said: “We have an exciting lineup of restaurants long-established and new, all preparing to celebrate this January’s NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week.
“We are also delighted to be able to add a new dimension to the event this year with our transportation partner, Arriva North East.
“Having Arriva on board will hopefully encourage people out of their cars [and] onto the bus to cut the carbon footprint of the event and allow people to make the most of their Restaurant Week experience savouring all that Newcastle has to offer.”
Vegan and vegetarian restaurants and menus are said to be well represented throughout the mix, reflecting on the apparent growing popularity of plant-based diets.
An Arriva North East spokesperson added: “NE1 Newcastle Restaurant Week is a key milestone in Newcastle’s event calendar and we are excited to be official transportation partners for the first time this January.”
NE1’s event was initially inspired by New York and its original Restaurant Week concept. NE1 launched Newcastle Restaurant Week in 2011, and was said to be the first of its kind in the UK and many other cities have adopted the initiative.
