£1,000 prize is just the ticket for Martin and Sue

Martin and Sue Hancock’s luck was definitely in when they popped in to look at flooring in a newly opened store in Bristol.

The couple walked out of Flooring Superstore with a voucher for £1,000 after winning a free ‘golden ticket’ promotion held to mark the opening of the 5,500 square-foot store on the city’s Imperial Retail Park.

Their win was made even more remarkable by the fact they picked the sole £1,000 prize from 150 identical tickets that were available on the opening day.

Martin said: “We had been in another store when we noticed Flooring Superstore had just opened so we popped in out of curiosity more than anything else.

“We were invited to pick one of the golden tickets and when we were told we had selected the £1,000 voucher we thought there must be a catch and expected to be told that there was a minimum purchase required to use it.

“We couldn’t have been happier when we realised we had actually won £1,000 off all flooring in the store.

“It was just like Willy Wonka, picking out the golden ticket.”

Martin and Sue’s two sons, Lee and Daniel, are the two beneficiaries of their luck as the couple used their voucher to buy a range of flooring for them. Lee now has a nice new carpet on the stairs of his home and Daniel, who still lives with Martin and Sue, has had Evo Core flooring laid in his bedroom.

Martin added: “We didn’t need anything and were not expecting to win something like this, so we were happy to help our sons.”

Flooring Superstore Retail Operations Manager Chris Barber said: “The odds of finding the £1,000 voucher on the first day of the store opening were 150-1, so we were amazed when Martin and Sue did it.

“We couldn’t be happier for them and it’s great to see the selfless gesture they have made.

“The golden ticket promotion is our new way of celebrating the opening of a new store, and it’s clear we made the right decision in choosing Bristol.

“Footfall has been excellent, and we’re pleased to be doing our part to support the retail sector in Bristol.”

Connection Flooring, the independent, family-run company behind Flooring Superstore, invested £100,000 and created three new jobs with the opening of the Bristol store.

People who visit the stores - there are now 17 in the UK - can choose flooring from three brands owned by Connection Flooring – Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct.
