Housebuilder supports local riding group for the disabled
Dinas Powys Riding for the Disabled, a local charity providing horse riding lessons for children with physical, learning and behavioural difficulties, has been selected to receive a £1,000 grant from the Barratt Homes Community Fund.
The South Wales charity, which is part of the national Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), is operated entirely independently by volunteers, and Patricia Vincent, treasure and assistant secretary, has welcomed the support from the five star housebuilder.
She said: “The benefits of riding are recognised by doctors and therapists for improving a wide range of medical conditions such as spasticity, balance, posture and confidence, while also offering a degree of independence for our pupils.
“We do not receive any formal funding, so we have to rely totally on fundraising. Barratt Homes’ generous donation means we can continue to provide our weekly lessons to those who need them.”
Steve Williams, Barratt Homes’ managing director said: “To help such a worthwhile cause, which is supporting disabled children in the local area, is a real honour. It’s wonderful to know that this donation can help this charity continue their fantastic work here.”
Dinas Powys Riding for the Disabled sessions take place at Cardiff Riding School in Pontcanna.
Barratt Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
