Children’s cancer charity benefits from housebuilder’s donation

CLIC Sargent, a local charity supporting children with cancer and their families, has been selected to receive a £1,000 grant from the Barratt Homes Community Fund.

CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people. The charity works to limit the damage that cancer causes beyond the physical effects, supporting young cancer patients emotionally, and building their resilience so they can continue to learn, regain their confidence and be inspired to think past cancer.

Today, 12 more children and young people in the UK will hear the devastating news that they have cancer. Treatment normally starts immediately, is often given many miles from home and can last for up to three years.

Cerys Sadler, CLIC Sargent Fundraising and Engagement Manager, said: “At CLIC Sargent, we were delighted to hear that we had been chosen for this generous donation. Thanks to organisations like Barratt Homes, we can be a support for young cancer patients and their families immediately after they hear the doctor say, ‘it’s cancer’.

“A donation like this means we can give five families a grant within days of diagnosis to cover those expenses that most people don’t think about, such as fuel and transport to hospital for vital treatment.”

In the past year CLIC Sargent have supported 109 children, young people and their families in the south and mid Wales area and have spent £24,000 on grants to help with the unexpected financial costs associated with a cancer diagnosis.

Steve Williams, Barratt Homes’ managing director said: “We are extremely proud to be able to support such a worthy cause, and one which directly benefits people living in the local area. Cancer is something that effects everyone at some point in their life and CLIC Sargent are working extremely hard to make life a little bit easier for young people and their families during an immensely difficult time.”

Barratt Homes’ Community Fund is a dedicated financial resource that helps to support local causes which improve the quality of life for those living in the region.
