Specsavers funding helps Norton youngster keep her eye on the ball
Building on its support of essential grassroots sports, Norton Specsavers has announced a partnership and £1,000 sponsorship of a local budding GB water polo league player.
Fourteen year-old Anna Motley from Norton, who plays locally for Sheffield Stingrays and regionally for the North East, hopes the sponsorship will provide her with the opportunity to represent Great Britain in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Anna herself has already represented England and GB this year at the European and EU Nations Championships which sees her train with the 04 England squad. She comments: ‘I’d like to say a huge thanks to the Specsavers Norton and the team for their generous sponsorship. I train every day at Ponds Forge in Sheffield and compete almost every weekend. Unfortunately, there isn’t any funding for the sport in the UK, meaning we have to self-finance our love of the sport, which makes this donation extremely significant.
‘Without support from Specsavers, my dream to compete for the country would haven’t been achievable, so this is a great opportunity for me, for which I’d like to say a huge thank you!’
Jennifer McGrath, Director at Norton Specsavers, comments: ‘We’re delighted to be supporting our local sporting talent in the area and I hope Anna’s sponsorship enables her to on to great things.
‘Eye care in sport is extremely important, so I hope the sponsorship encourages players and parents alike to maintain their own sight health to make sure they keep their eye on the ball! Whilst water polo players are accustomed to often gruelling matches, our tests only take half an hour, so there’s no excuse not to get them tested!’
