Conference puts 'Good' at the top of the agenda

BIM Show Live is the UK’s leading BIM conference and attracts over 400 delegates from across the world. Bringing together global construction professionals from all aspects of the built environment, this two-day event has been hosted in Newcastle since 2017, and the 2020 event was held at the iconic Boiler Shop in February.

Over the years, it has become one of the most trusted information-sharing platforms for digital construction and a driving force for the implementation of BIM processes.

The theme of the conference was established as ‘BIM for good’ and Rob Charlton, CEO of Space Group opened the conference stating “The talks that we’ve got are less around BIM, but more around the impact of BIM on society”. The vision was to revolutionise all aspects of the conference to fall in line with the theme, ensuring the sustainability credentials were ‘good’.

Local Event Management Agency BeaconHouse Events took on the challenge and worked with the venue and suppliers on eco-friendly options. Meetings where possible were conducted online, vegetarian and vegan food sourced locally, and no delegate programmes were printed. Delegates and speakers were asked to bring their own re-usable cups and bottles for their caffine and hydration hits.

BeaconHouse Events Director Catherine Coulter said “Event sustainability is one of the fastest-growing trends in the conference industry, and for good reason. We have a vital role to play in addressing some of the sustainability challenges we face as a planet. And as younger, more climate-conscious delegates come of age, our vision is to take on the challenge of sustainability with each of our events. We’re working towards a sustainable certification with The Planet Mark.”
