Chesham based B Loony Ltd wins gold at the SME Milton Keynes and Bucks business awards

One of the UK’s oldest and most established promotional balloon printing businesses – B Loony Ltd - has been crowned Gold Winners in The Green Award category at the SME MK & Buckinghamshire Business Awards 2020.

The Green Award was presented to B-Loony for being “green” in business terms and working to reduce or remove the harmful impact that products have on the environment. In B-Loony’s case, this award reflected the action B-Loony has taken to eliminate plastic and replace it with sustainable alternatives across their entire product range.

Andy MacInnes, Commercial Director at B Loony said: *We are delighted to have been recognised for our work to improve the sustainability of our products. B Loony supplies global brands including McDonalds and Costa Coffee across the UK and around the world, so it is important to us that we lead the way in making our products fit for the 21st century. Our focus on sustainability over the last few years has transformed our product range and these more sustainable versions are proving extremely popular with customers.“

B-Loony’s particular focus over the last year has been the introduction of a plastic free alternative to the traditional single use plastic balloon stick. Their unique solution is the BalloonGrip® balloon holder, made entirely from recyclable cardboard. These can be used alongside natural rubber balloons which are sustainable, biodegradable and plastic free.

In addition to the BalloonGrip®, B-Loony have also rolled out a number of alternative materials for many of their core products, including 100% paper sticks for their branded handwaving flags, and two new styles of eco friendly bunting, manufactured using either wool or cotton instead of the industry standard polyester or plastic.

The work by B-Loony Ltd to make their product range greener was recognised by the judges who commented: “This business have clearly taken action to address the issues of their industry, so now rather than being part of the problem, they are a part of the solution.”
