Heathrow flying low with coronavirus drop in passengers
A London airport has reported a drop in passenger numbers following the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Heathrow, which operates flights to countries around the world, announced today that its passenger numbers dropped by 4.8 per cent.
The airport said that there was a lower demand for Asian and European flights and it expects a further year-on-year decrease in coming weeks.
It reported that it has introduced regular deep cleaning across all terminals as well as increased availability and provision of hand sanitisers.
In February, the airport also saw over 115,800 metric tonnes of cargo pass through its doors, down 9.5 per cent.
Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye commented:“The threat of coronavirus is an increasing challenge for the UK and we are working day and night to ensure Britain’s front door is open and safe for our people and passengers.
We will continue to work with the Government to limit the impacts this will have on UK plc.“
