Haines Watts supports Architect of the Year

The North East offices of accountancy firm Haines Watts are supporting Building Design’s Architect of the Year Awards including the coveted ‘Best Architect Employer of the Year’ award.

The prestigious gala awards, which take place in May at Westminster Park Plaza, London, will champion the very best in architecture and design from across the country. Attracting hundreds of leading figures from the architectural community, the AYA awards are unique in that they judge a body of work and honour overall achievement rather than a single project.

The sponsorship brings together the firm’s lead teams in architecture from the North East and London to actively support and recognise achievement in the sector. Jonathan Scott, Regional Tax Partner in the North East, said: “We’re proud to be supporting the AYA Awards. The event is a fantastic celebration of architecture and the built environment, recognising and commending practices and architects from all over the UK.

“For us, it’s a great opportunity to show our support for this vibrant sector. We work with forward-thinking practices across the UK, many of which are at the frontier of building design, and we will be encouraging them to get involved in the awards and showcase their capability.”

The ‘Best Architect Employer of the Year’ is a category that champions the best in the industry but also rewards those practices with the foresight and courage to drive change and embrace new practices and thinking. Haines Watts will also be sponsoring the drinks reception at the gala.

Alex Shall, Partner at Haines Watts, comments: “The Best Architect Employer of the Year is an award that closely aligns with Haines Watts’ thinking as an employer. We believe in having a culture that fosters a healthy work-life balance, drives productivity, encourages creativity, and harbours diversity. It is ultimately about making a commitment to value, nurture and invest in our employees now and in the future. To recognise architectural practices who are achieving this, is immensely satisfying.”

This is the latest exciting development for Haines Watts in the North East which, following a merger with a Gateshead-based practice last year, has seen regional headcount grow to 80 and regional turnover increase to over £7 million. The Newcastle office relocated to a new state-of-the-art, 500m2 custom-designed space in Newcastle City Centre in 2019 following a £0.5 million investment.

Haines Watts is a leading advisor to owner-managed businesses in the UK. The Top 15 firm supports some of the UK’s most preeminent architects and have secured a reputation as leading business advisors to the creative industries.
