Pegasus Group name Shelter Charity of the Year

Pegasus Group has unveiled Shelter, the national charity helping people struggling with bad housing or homelessness, as its charity of the year for 2020.

Shelter offers advice, support and legal services but relies on public support to raise funds, volunteer and take part in campaigns to help fix the root causes of the housing crisis.

Pegasus Group’s managing director, Tony Bateman, said: “We put a lot of thought into selecting our Charity of the Year, and choosing Shelter seemed an obvious choice.

“A significant proportion of our work continues to be the design and planning of new communities for some of the UK’s leading housebuilders and we all agreed that a safe place to live should be available to everyone, and its value cannot be underestimated.”

Shelter exists to fight for people whose lives are blighted by the loss of their home. In 2018/19, people went to the charity for the following reasons: they were facing eviction or repossession; they were looking for somewhere new to live; they needed help dealing with poor conditions; they lived in an unsafe house or area; they needed help with their finances. Its hubs across the country gave advice and support to 38,098 households.

Lindsay Tilston-Jones, Regional Community Fundraiser from Shelter said: “We, at Shelter, are delighted to have been chosen by Pegasus Group as their Charity of the Year for 2020. It means so much to have been chosen by the staff and the support will provide vital support for people who are homeless, facing homelessness or bad housing and for us to campaign until there is a safe home for everyone.”

Last year Pegasus Group raised a total of £10,000 for national mental health charity Mind, which provides advice and support to anyone experiencing a mental health problem. Throughout the year money was raised by Pegasus Group staff taking part in a variety of fundraising events including triathlons, the National Three Peaks Challenge, and office led baking competitions, sweepstakes and festive activities.

Pegasus Group is recognised as one of the leading independent, national planning, design and environmental consultancies. With more than 320 skilled and experienced staff operating from 14 offices across the UK and Ireland, the company’s services span the entire project process from site finding, acquisition and planning through to design and delivery, specialising in planning, design, environment, economics and heritage.
