On Medical's Digital Head Start During Coronavirus Pandemic

On Medical’s year-long build-up to going digital put them ahead of their competitors in the medico-legal reporting and rehabilitation industry when reacting to the unprecedented Coronavirus pandemic.

With over 1,500 virtual appointments conducted, and in excess of 1,000 medical reports delivered, On Medical have been market-leading while others have struggled to adjust to remote working following strict social distancing guidelines imposed by the UK Government.

The population have been in a lockdown scenario for nearly two months, with people only allowed to leave their homes for essential supplies or one form of exercise a day, with working from home (wherever possible) a necessity for all those who can facilitate it.

For medico-legal agencies, this has seen face-to-face appointments cancelled and direct treatment unable to take place. However, just three days after the lockdown was announced on March 22nd, On Medical were 100% remotely operational.

Company director Ian Scanlan pointed to early groundwork when discussing how On Medical managed to switch so quickly, restricting service disruption.

“Complete digital provision has always been an aspiration for On Medical,” he said.

“We had laid much of the foundations to implement a digital offering and provide virtual treatment, as well as medical reports. As a result, we were able to move very quickly, and effectively provide a seamless crossover to digital for our clients.

“It took an enormous team effort to switch to virtual service provision but, given preparations we had made over the previous year, the team managed to achieve this whilst ensuring very little impact to service and disruption to our clients.”

Scanlan also expects this quick reaction to benefit the company in the long run, with competitors possibly falling by the wayside during tough economic times as a result of Covid-19.

“The pandemic has identified those who have a future strategy and an ability to respond quickly to a changing landscape,” he continued.

“This will be key to survival over the coming year and I fear we may see some casualties as a result.

“It was apparent that when the lockdown was announced, On Medical were first to respond and offer solutions to the market as a whole. We have seen considerable support as a result of our decisive and coherent response and expect to take this support into the post lockdown period and in the run up to the implementation of the Whiplash Reforms now targeted for April 2021.”
