E-bike cycle to work scheme: new partnership launched

Raleigh, the British bicycle manufacturer, has partnered with specialist insurance provider, Cycleplan, to offer four weeks of free insurance with every new purchase through its e-bike cycle to work scheme.

The tie-up will allow Raleigh to provide the added value of insurance to customers as part of Electric Bike Access, a cycle to work benefit that offers up to 42% savings for employees who buy an e-bike through their company.

E-bikes offer a highly convenient – but more expensive - alternative to a traditional bike, meaning they are more costly to replace in the event of an issue. Moreover, if a bike purchased through a cycle to work scheme is stolen during its lease period, the employee is still liable for the full cost of the bike. Insurance to cover theft and damage is therefore strongly advised.

Every Electric Bike Access customer will be eligible for four weeks’ free insurance, covering theft and damage of a bike up to £4,000. They will then have the option to take out an annual policy with a 20% discount when the free period ends.

Raleigh is one of the world’s best-known bike brands. Established in 1887, the company is still based in its hometown of Nottingham and is renowned for creating a range of iconic models. Raleigh, now owned by the Accell group, offers an ever-expanding range of bikes from Raleigh, Haibike and Lapierre with models to suit various budgets and needs, from an electric folding bike for commuting to an electric hybrid bike for exploring.

Cycleplan is a leading specialist cycling insurance provider, trusted by tens of thousands of cyclists across the UK. The brand is backed by ambassador Lizzie Deignan (formerly Armitstead), the Olympic road race champion.

John Woosey, Cycleplan’s Founder and Managing Director commented: “We have seen an incredible boom in both awareness of and participation in cycling over recent months, which looks set to continue for the foreseeable future. E-bikes have been a key part of this, providing a more accessible way for consumers to get out on two wheels and enjoy the benefits it brings to their physical and mental health.

“Raleigh’s e-bikes are second to none. It’s a heritage brand with a fantastic reputation to match – so we’re really pleased to be working with the team to offer added security to their customers.”

Ed Pegram at Raleigh added: “We are delighted to announce our exclusive bike insurance partnership with Cycleplan. Insurance will add value to customers and provide peace of mind for employees that have taken a bike through our cycle to work scheme, on top of the four weeks’ free insurance we are very pleased to offer exclusive savings to our customers through Cycleplan.”
