The Dental Cafe Goes Digital To Offer Virtual Appointments

The Dental Cafe®, Liverpool’s prevention and cosmetic centre, has launched a free service that will give patients the opportunity to review their oral care with a qualified dental clinician.

The initiative, Dentist in your Bathroom™, allows patients to book a 30-minute slot via The Dental Cafe® website, with appointments carried out via video call. A member of the team will review your teeth cleaning routine, answer your questions and provide advice for optimum at-home care.

Director and Principal Dentist Dr Clare Robinson (bds) says that the innovative new appointment system is designed to help both adults and children improve their oral care in order to maintain mouth health and prevent more serious issues such as decay and gum disease while in lockdown.

Clare said: “We have been inundated with queries from people who are looking for professional advice on how to care for their teeth and ensure that they are in the best possible condition. It was from here that we created the concept for Dentist in your Bathroom™, a service that allows us to come to you in the comfort of your own home, all conducted safely and remotely using a digital platform. Not only are we looking forward to seeing some of our loyal patients once again but we hope that this will be an opportunity for new patients, even those located outside of Liverpool, to take advantage of our services and find out what we’re about – you can even get your little ones involved.

“For us, prevention is at the core of what we offer, and we hope to educate people on best practice. Although we can’t give a diagnosis on issues without a physical examination, we can provide expert advice and review what you’re currently doing to help get you the results that you want at home before any serious problems occur.”

As part of the 30-minute appointment, a dental professional can also advise patients on how to examine their own mouths and they will be shown how to check for any changes that may have occurred since their last check-up including looking for lumps or anything else that may need to be investigated further.

Clare added: “We wanted our new digital service to be accessible, which is why we made the decision to make it free of charge. It’s a great way of introducing children to the idea of oral hygiene and overall, we hope that everyone who books a session with us will gain some important knowledge and practical tips to improve their daily routines. Everything from the toothbrush that you use to your diet can all have an impact on your mouth, and we can discuss those things during an appointment.

“Our booking system is available online via our website and we’re currently offering 30-minute bathroom consultations per person. Once you’ve booked your slot, we’ll be in touch to let you know what the process will be. While we are transitioning back to face-to-face dental care, we are pleased to be able to offer an additional service to improve access to advice.”
