Cineworld pushes back reopening by three weeks as movie releases reschedule
An international cinema chain has announced that it will be reopening its UK screens later than anticipated due to the rescheduling of upcoming movie releases.
Cineworld, headquartered in London, confirmed today that it is amending its original prediction regarding the opening date of its cinemas from 10 July to 31 July, adding in an additional three weeks of preparation.
This comes after reports that the cinema industry is set to see sales fall by £900m this year - the worst year since 1996.
Under government guidance, cinemas are allowed to reopen from this Saturday (4 July) with increased social distancing measures in place, but the releases of upcoming films from Disney and Warner Bros have been postponed until August.
Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Cineworld, commented: “Movie fans around the world continue to be excited by the strong slate of summer films ahead, including Tenet, Mulan, A Quiet Place Part II, Unhinged, The Broken Hearts Gallery, Bill & Ted Face the Music, Greenland, and Antebellum as well as a special re-release of Christopher Nolan’s Inception on IMAX.
“Cineworld looks forward to welcoming these moviegoers back to our cinemas next month and believes that they will once again be immersed in the timeless theatrical experience they know and love.”
