Smarta Healthcare complete fundraising challenge in support of local charity

Bedford-based NHS approved pharmacy dispensing hub, Smarta Healthcare, has raised an amazing £1627.50 for local charity, MacIntyre, exceeding its initial target by 82%.

Headquartered in Milton Keynes, MacIntyre is dedicated to providing support and care for more than 1200 children, young people and adults who have a learning disability or autism within the Bedfordshire community.

With many of the charity’s fundraising events cancelled as a result of COVID-19, the charity launched its ‘Move with MacIntyre’ challenge in May 2020 to encourage both individuals and businesses to do what they could outdoors to raise funds during this critical time.

The Smarta Healthcare team stepped up to the challenge by completing 4 million steps and 30 hours of cycling over a 30-day period to raise vital funds for such an important cause for families across Bedfordshire.

Lorraine Devereux, events and corporate fundraiser at MacIntyre confirmed: “We would like to say a huge thank you to the Smarta Healthcare team for their support for the “Move with MacIntyre” challenge, they have been amazing.

“Every penny raised will be making a real impact in the lives of people we support in our Bedfordshire services. With the money raised, we will be investing in technology such as iPads enabling more of the people we support to stay connected with friends and loved ones they may have been apart from at this difficult time plus the opportunity to access different activities and learn new skills too.”

“Smarta Healthcare are corporate partners of MacIntyre and have previously carried out fundraising activities to support the work the charity provides to those in the community who require learning support and care”.

Harjinder Singh, co-founder of Smarta Healthcare explains: “I am so proud of the team for absolutely smashing this challenge to raise an amazing amount of money for MacIntyre.

“As all our organised charity events have been cancelled for the foreseeable future due to current restrictions, we still wanted to rise funds and support MacIntyre, which is why we came up with the idea of a team step and cycle challenge.

“We found that although we had to carry out the challenge apart due to current social distancing guidelines, it brought the team closer together as we were all working towards the same goal.”

Founded by experienced Consultant Pharmacist, Baljit Kaur, and IT Consultant, Harjinder Singh, Smarta Healthcare provides healthcare services to the community who may find themselves isolated and unable to access local healthcare services, including out of hours cover spanning all 365 days a year to assist with emergency situations.
