IoD awards Fellowship to international trade expert Ian Garner

The Institute of Directors (IoD) has awarded a Fellowship to Yorkshire businessman Ian Garner.

Ian is an international trade and healthcare expert who is currently acting deputy chair of the IoD North Yorkshire branch.

Ian runs his own consultancy Practical Solutions Management and is a patron of ExportExchange. He spent more than a decade in strategy and business development with Bupa across Australia, Europe, North America, West Africa and South East Asia, with a focus on long-term aged care and out-patient healthcare. Prior to this, he spent 20 years in retail management with Thomas Cook and five years in sales and relationship management roles with Travelex.

IoD members are invited to become Fellows based on their extensive experience and contribution to business. The recognition is given to members who have attained the IoD’s Diploma in Company Direction and those who have become Chartered Directors.

Ian said: “I am honoured to be awarded Fellowship of the IoD and look forward to continuing my work in helping directors to build better and more responsible organisations. I can’t recall a more challenging time for business leaders so it’s essential that we work together to solve problems, build resilience and identify opportunities.

“We are currently hosting a wide range of online forums and webinars with expert speakers, many of which are free to attend. By sharing our experiences we can all play our part in the economic recovery.”

Jon Geldart, director general of the IoD, said: “This recognition for Ian is well-deserved. He is a committed ambassador for the Institute who is generous in sharing his time and experience with members. He is a key part of a strong North Yorkshire team, enabling directors in this important region to make their voice heard.”

The IoD is the UK’s number one organisation for directors, providing support, events, professional development and a lobbying voice for all types of business. The Institute has secured vital support for business leaders during the Covid-19 pandemic, including financial assistance for wage bills and changes to insolvency rules.
