Secretary of State grants London development planning permission
Property developers Thornsett Group plc have obtained planning permission for Mosaic Place, a large mixed use development in South London, following a Call-In Inquiry conducted by the Secretary of State.
The mixed use scheme is for 220 residential units across two sites, with a new church and community space for Purley Baptist Church and the wider community. The project includes a 17 storey landmark tower designed by leading architects Proctor & Matthews.
The scheme has come to fruition over the last seven years through Thornsett working proactively with the London Borough of Croydon. The scheme has been endorsed by Croydon’s planning committee, the Mayor, two Planning Inspectors (as the refusal by the previous Secretary of State was quashed by Court Order) and finally approved by the Secretary of State.
Thornsett is a family-owned firm with extensive experience in every stage of development, often partnering with churches and the charity sector on novel and transformative projects. The firm was assisted on the planning application, court proceedings and public inquiry by solicitors Temple Bright.
Gerard Cunningham, Executive Chairman of Thornsett said: “We are delighted that Mosaic Place has been granted planning permission. It will bring huge benefits to Purley and will help to ensure that our partner, Purley Baptist Church, will flourish.”
Temple Bright planning partner Paul Thompson said: “I have been helping Thornsett over the last four years with its largest project to date. Call-In Inquiries are rare, as the issues involved must be of national significance, and it has been a privilege to help this resilient and honourable developer to navigate a process that is new to them and be part of a wonderful team delivering a successful outcome.”
Temple Bright is law firm of over 70 partners with offices in London and Bristol. The firm, which operates a streamlined partner-only business model, has a strong real estate emphasis and its planning practice has grown substantially since the arrival of two specialist planning partners in 2015.
