Kent Businessman Responds to Ambulance Service Call for Help

Bearsted-based Brook Security donates much needed appliances to respond to the higher crew numbers at stations.

Terry Roffey, MD of Brook Security, award-winning Kent and London provider of home and business security systems, gifted a double fridge and freezer to the Ambulance Service after spotting a call for support from well-known Dragon, Touker Suleyman from hit entertainment show, Dragon’s Den.

The Dragon has been actively supportive of Ambulance Service, harnessing his network to drum up support in order to get them the essentials they need. Roffey spotted the Dragon’s post on LinkedIn and although he didn’t have a “spare fridge” he offered to purchase a brand new one for the depot!

Roffey’s response read, “Hi Touker haven’t a spare tall freezer. But happy to sponsor one through my business Brook Security. We have recently carried out a large project for a local NHS Trust. So happy to pay in on. Just ask someone to let us know. Best wishes.”

30-strong St. Helier Ambulance crew were in need of a fridge to chill their drinks and food items. Roffey immediately ordered a new fridge in response to Suleyman’s LinkedIn post and a freezer was added to the order for good measure.

“We have recently carried out work with a local Kent NHS Trust and seeing response from key workers to the Covid-19 outbreak has been inspiring. It has been important to me personally and as a business to offer help where we are able. Appreciating the impact that a staff fridge would have on the workforce’s wellbeing and comfort, I knew it was something that I could quickly jump into action to provide,” explains Roffey.

Coincidentally, Terry’s younger brother, who would have been celebrating his 57th birthday this year, was treated in the area at Carshalton Children’s Hospital and later, died at 5 months old.

For Roffey, “It felt like the right thing to do, not only respond to a key worker need during these uncertain times but also to help the NHS in a community that served my family nearly 60 years ago.”

Roffey received an invite to meet the team at Carshalton, where they thanked him for his gift, and he had the chance to thank them for all they were doing.

“It was a very humbling experience. The NHS and ambulance crews all over the country have done an outstanding job. I’m glad to have had the opportunity to help and thank Touker for sharing in his post,” says Roffey.
