Revolutionised divorce process helping Cheshire law firm deal with surge in enquiries

Vital digital changes in the divorce process is helping one Cheshire law firm handle a significant increase in enquiries.

Watsons Solicitors are finding an increase in enquiries from individuals seeking support for a range of family matters following the relaxation of lockdown during the COVID-19 crisis.

Enquiries regarding divorce have seen a particular increase and Watsons’ specialist divorce solicitors are now dealing with cases completely online – a stark contrast to three months ago and a move that has pushed the industry forward by several years.

Danny Hudson, partner and member of the family department at Watsons Solicitors, says the changes have sped up proceedings and is better for clients as well as practitioners.

“A newly created online portal by Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals Service (HMCTS) provides a single place to issue, pay for and manage applications,” he said.

“Just three months ago, everything was completed offline and via paper, with documents sent by post to each party and then handled by any number of people in the court office.

“Thanks to the portal, both parties can instantly read and sign forms as well as securely log in and acknowledge receipt of documents.

“This system is much more efficient and user-friendly for everyone involved.

“The innovation has really moved us forward as a law firm. A marriage breakdown can be a sensitive and difficult time, so having the application process sped up helps our clients.

“If anyone is considering a divorce, we advise them to contact a divorce solicitor for support and guidance.

“There are huge financial implications for couples who are intending to divorce regarding income, capital, pensions and inheritance. We can guide people through a process which can sometimes be overwhelming.”

Watsons Solicitors, which has been established for more than 60 years, specialises in family law, employment law, wills and probate, personal injury and conveyancing.

The team of experienced solicitors each hold various accreditations and memberships of professional bodies relevant to their expertise, while the firm’s partners oversee all areas of work.
