ScS "encouraged" by post-lockdown orders boost
Furniture retailer ScS has seen its post-lockdown order rise to almost the same level as the prior year despite the disruption caused by COVID-19.
In a statement this morning, the Sunderland-based firm announced that since May 24 it has seen orders of 92.2 per cent of the previous year.
Prior to that, the company saw its sales dip by 92.5 per cent during the period of government-mandated lockdown as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The firm attributes this rise in orders to an increased ‘pent up’ demand, with both online and in-store revenue increasing since the reopening of its distribution network.
Overall, ScS has seen sales for the 52 weeks ended July 25 2020 of £268m, compared with £333m in the previous year, but is optimistic about the post-lockdown trading figures so far.
The firm commented: “Whilst it is too early to provide clarity on the outlook for the weeks and months ahead, the Group is encouraged with its trading performance since re-opening on 23 May 2020.
“ScS is a resilient business, with a strong balance sheet, coupled with a flexible cost base, and is well positioned to navigate these difficult circumstances and maximise opportunities as and when they arise.”
