Prevent Breast Cancer appoints Smoking Gun to support upcoming celebrity ‘Sunday Night In’

National charity Prevent Breast Cancer has appointed Smoking Gun to handle its public relations, as it gets set to host a virtual ‘Sunday Night In’ fundraiser.

As part of the new partnership, the Manchester-based agency will handle consumer media relations and advise on the charity’s social media strategy in a bid to drive ticket sales and support for the event on Sunday 23 August.

With 2020 going down as the year of cancelled concerts and postponed nights out at the theatre with friends due to the Coronavirus pandemic, Prevent Breast Cancer is putting on a star-studded, socially distanced night full of glitz, glam, music and entertainment, which you can enjoy from the comfort of your home.

Kicking off via weblink at 7.30pm on August 23, the event is being co-hosted by TV presenter Michelle Eagleton and actor Scott Wright.

Priced at £20 for a household ticket, ‘Night In’ guests will enjoy a host of celebrity interviews and guest performances from Coronation Street favourites like Kym Marsh, Victoria Ekanoye and Sally Dynevor.

BBC weatherman and drummer Owain Wyn Evans will also be performing a set, after Twitter users went mad for his take on the BBC News theme tune at the height of lockdown.

Other performers include singer Paul Pashley and much loved Manchester DJ and radio presenter, Clint Boon.

Having previously offered support to Prevent Breast Cancer during the Coronavirus crisis, the event now sees Smoking Gun in its first official appointment by the charity close to its heart.

Nikki Barraclough, executive director at Prevent Breast Cancer said: “Appointing Smoking Gun was a no-brainer - they understand our objectives and what we stand for as a charity. We have ambitious plans over the course of the next few months, and we’re especially excited to see where this partnership can take us.

“The work that Smoking Gun recently delivered for us in support of our ‘Bake a Boob’ campaign proved just what they are capable of.”

One in five breast cancers (20%) are now diagnosed in women aged under 50, according to research by the NHS, and Prevent Breast Cancer is the only UK charity funding groundbreaking research solely aimed at preventing the disease for future generations.
