Teesside Airport expanding services for global travel

Teesside International Airport is doubling flights to Aberdeen and Belfast and will provide a new service to London Heathrow as coronavirus restrictions continue to ease.

From Monday 7 September, flights to Aberdeen will depart twice a day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays, with an additional connection running on Sundays.

A twice-daily service to Belfast will run on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays alongside new weekend routes for leisure passengers.

The airport safely reintroduced once-a-day service to the cities on 22 June as part of a phased reopening of flights following its temporary closure as a result of the UK lockdown.

Additionally, there will be a new daily connection to Heathrow for the first time in over a decade, providing travellers with access to more than 180 destinations around the globe.

It follows announcements that Eastern Airways’ route to Cornwall Airport Newquay will run all year round, and that single daily Monday to Friday flights to Southampton will take to the skies in September.

The airport is in continued discussions with all of its airline partners over the reintroduction of services from Teesside Airport, with more announcements on the return of more flights expected in the coming weeks.

Tees Valley Mayor Ben Houchen said: “When I brought our airport back into public ownership and saved it from closure, we were putting in place the building blocks to a brighter future through our 10-year Rescue Plan.

“While the impact of the coronavirus on the travel industry has been unprecedented, Teesside Airport is going from strength to strength and we are in a good position to grow further.

“Our flight to London City reconnected our region to the capital by air for the first time in over a decade and the success of this route paved the way for our new Heathrow flight – a route people from across Teesside, Darlington and Hartlepool have been crying out for since I save our airport from closure.”
